2. DON’T HAVE BEER PONG

It’s a High School Graduation party not a frat party so if he’s not Graduating College it’s best NOT to encourage underage drinking. Other parents might not be comfortable with it and it’s not a good look in front of Grandma, Grandpa, and younger siblings. Use non-alcoholic beer instead or offer a mocktail! Try a soda bar, where each guest can create the flavored soda of their choice.

3. DON’T PAY FOR TABLES AND CHAIRS

Borrow Tables and Chairs from School or use free pallet wood – Renting tables and chairs are expensive but you can get them for free!

Just go to your son’s school and ask if they’d loan you their tables and chairs for his Grad Party! Ask for availability as early as 2 to 4 months in advance for your Grad Party date (so no one else gets them), ask what time you can pick them up, when you can drop them off, and have access to a pickup truck, van, or trailer to transport them.

Schools are paid for by taxpayer dollars, so you’re allowed to borrow their supplies.

You can also ask your Church or ask the neighbors if they have any seating you can borrow.

Pallet wood can also make good tables for boys of all ages!

They can sit on cushions or blankets so you can reserve the regular tables to older people, adults, and girls who may be wearing skirts.

Pallet wood also makes a great boys Senior table and even a great photo backdrop!

4. DON’T Feel Pressured to Have a Party “Theme”

Themes are good for narrowing down the types of foods, the color of decorations, and the activities to include, they are also good if you have a Graduate with very specific interests, but don’t feel pressured to have one.

If you just want to make it simple stick to more broad themes like a backyard cook out, his school sports team, outdoor movie night, or a pool party or make a destination party at a beach bonfire, amusement park, ziplining, rock climbing, boat party, paintballing, or obstacle courses.

If you’re considering throwing a Grad party at a destination or place be sure to consider the guest list size.

5. DON’T PLAY ANYONE ELSE’S FAVORITE MUSIC STICK TO HIS PLAYLIST

Unless the Grad’s favorite music is raunchy rap, try to stick to the Grad’s favorite songs and playlist only!

6. DON’T MAKE EMBARRASSING SPEECHES

Keep It Brief And Sincere!

7. SERVE A HEALTHY MIX OF FINGER FOODS AND HEARTY PORTIONS.

Some kids might have multiple parties to go to in one day so finger foods will be perfect for them, but also consider guests like family and relatives who will be there the whole time.

8. DON’T SHY AWAY FROM COLOR

There are soo many other options than just blue and black!

9. DON’T FORGET TO PROVIDE GAMES FOR BOYS ESPECIALLY AT A BACKYARD PARTY

You can go big or go simple with the games but make sure you have some available! Bring out the football, soccer ball, Frisbee, baseball, and even golf balls. Bean bags and twister are other popular games, even a diy version of Guess Who.

10. DON’T OFFER ONLY JUNK FOOD AND CANDY

It’s your son’s Grad party so splurge a little but be sure to offer healthier options for other guests. Put a fruit bar next to the candy bar, vegetable crudite next to the chips, and salad next to the hamburgers and hot dogs. Friends or relatives with heart problems or who are diabetic will appreciate the gesture. Don’t forget an alternative to sugary sodas and sports drinks too!

This is a celebration of an amazing milestone! Whether or not the decorations are perfect or everything goes as planned, the whole point is to take it all in and enjoy one of the most exciting times in life with family and friends.

We hope this list helps you plan the Grad party you’ll never forget. Congrats to the Grad! The future is yours!

Love,

Dish it to your friends!
